I have mentioned before that one of the great joys of my ministry is my friendship with Bishop Malone of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo. We have a growing ministry together as well as a personal friendship.
Recently Bishop Malone and I were interviewed on Western New York Catholic Weekly. You can hear the program here.
There was much conversation about our joint pastoral letters and our call for economic justice in our community.
One of the remarkable things about this interview is the way that the interviewer introduced us as “two of the bishops in Western New York” and asked me about my vocation in the same way that he asks Roman Catholic priests to share their vocations.
I hope I never forget how remarkable it is that we are coming to a place where we can be treated as equals in ministry and as bishops together and to see ourselves that way. It is an outgrowth of our friendship.
